I've been hearing a lot of rumbling recently that the Nintendo Wii is beginning to lose some of its charm, and that the hardcore gamers are getting angry at the big N because its not putting out enough games on the Wii to make it appeal to them.
I'll agree that there aren't nearly enough 'core' games for the Wii itself. But I ask you, when was the last time you browsed the Virtual Console selection?
if you take Super Mario Galaxy out of my play history, I have spent more time on the Virtual console than any all my Wii games combined. As a matter of fact, the VC was a primary factor in why I even bought the Wii in the first place, and yet I don't hear a blessed thing about it except on dedicated VC sites (see link for an example).
Some of the VC games I have:
Super Mario World (IMO, Best mario game ever, though some will claim that SMB 3 holds that title.)
Starfox 64
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the 7 Stars (one of the finest JRPGs ever, if I do say so myself)
Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen (Before a VC release this game would have cost you a pretty penny to track down, as only 250,000 carts were made in the US)
thats just a sample, but available also are several classic Zelda games, more JRPG's than you can shake a stick at, and some genuine overlooked gems (I would argue that the above Ogre Battle title is one such)
I bring this up because another grumbling that I hear a lot is that older games did it better. Like JRPG's, recently a lot of them have perhaps looked pretty, but fell on their face in the execution. But the classics, especially the ones they both to release on the VC are pretty dang nice.
Anyway, I just felt like throwing that out there. (and I do own a PS3 for my 'core' current gen system, so this isn't a fanboy exclusive rant)
